MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — August 7, 2026 — An LSU Health New Orleans-led study highlighted that BloodSTOP® iX Trauma Matrix achieved 100% hemostasis and 100% survival through 16 hours in large-animal trauma models, significantly outperforming QuikClot® Combat Gauze. The research was accepted for both poster and podium presentation at the 2026 Military Health System Research Symposium.

The study evaluated the two hemostatic agents in 40 pigs across four severe-bleeding models, including splenic injuries and anticoagulated femoral artery injuries.

Trauma Matrix achieved a 100% hemostasis rate compared with 60% for Combat Gauze. It also reduced average blood loss from approximately 640 to 390 milliliters and lowered blood loss from 29% to 18% of estimated blood volume.

All Trauma Matrix-treated animals survived at 3 and 16 hours after injury. Survival among Combat Gauze-treated animals declined from 70% at three hours to approximately 50% at 16 hours. Trauma Matrix also required less fluid resuscitation and maintained more stable blood pressure.

Importantly, in anticoagulated models (Plavix or heparin), Trauma Matrix achieved 100% hemostasis and 100% survival (0% mortality), versus 25% hemostasis and 50% mortality for Combat Gauze. Its coagulation-independent mechanism forms a mechanical seal and bioactive scaffold, supporting hemorrhage control when normal clotting pathways are impaired.

These large-animal findings support further evaluation of BloodSTOP iX Trauma Matrix for severe trauma and combat-related bleeding.
